COULEE CITY — The Almira/Coulee-Hartline High School Warriors scored on their first three offensive possessions to jump ahead early in a 58-8 win over Bridgeport on Friday night at home.
Quarterback Dane Isaak opened the scoring with a 65-yard touchdown run.
After recovering the onside kick, the Warriors scored again on a pass from Isaak to Grady Murray for 49 yards.
A Parker Roberts run and score put ACH ahead 20-0 less than three minutes into the game.
Camren Goetz added a rushing score late in the first quarter. Jaxon Baergen broke away for a 70-yard touchdown run in the second quarter for the Warriors. Cooper Correia nabbed a tipped pass late in the second quarter for a pick-six, and ACH led 42-0.
Cody Allsbrook scored from near the goal line to start the second half scoring for ACH. Baergan added his second rushing score of the game early in the fourth. Bridgeport scored a touchdown as time expired to avoid the shutout, chipping in the two-point conversion.
Baergen finished with 133 yards rushing. Isaak added 92 yards rushing and 73 passing yards for ACH. Reece Isaak led the ACH defense with eight total tackles, including three for losses and one sack.
Dane Isaak said after the game it’s great building confidence in some of the younger players who will be relied upon when the Warriors hit the field this fall.
“It’s nice being able to watch as those second-teamers get to come in and find success,” Isaak said.
Having been in that position himself as a freshman, Isaak said he knows how exciting it is coming in and trying to match the success of the older players. The run of state titles in recent years speaks for the program’s success on the field, and Isaak said that winning expectation is something all ACH players hold themselves accountable for.
ACH head coach Brandon Walsh said he’s happy with where his team is right now in the season. In week one, he said the team looked like it hadn’t played in 15 months. On Friday, that wasn’t the case.
“Our speed in general stood out to me; our backfield is really fast,” Walsh said. “That’s how we’re able to score on our first three touches.”
With a bye week ahead of them, Walsh said he’s looking to have some fun with his players this week while fine-tuning some of the basics.
The Warriors will wrap up their season on April 1 when they visit Soap Lake.
