May 9, 1971 – STYLE REVUE DRAWS MANY
Sandpoint Elks Club bustled excitedly when ladies of the Elks and guests gathered for a style revue. Commentator was Mrs. Norm Bauer with Mrs. Dell Parsons at the piano. Models for the Princess Shop were Mrs. Jack Plumb, Mrs. Dieter DeHaan, Miss Clarice Martin, Miss Denise Pinsonneault and Miss Anne Eitzman. J.C. Penney models were Mrs. Ed Ham, Miss Linda Miller and Mrs. Robert Moore. Fair Lady gowns were modeled by Miss Nancy Schmidt, Mrs. Vivian Palmer, Mrs. Dan Deshon, Mrs. George Harper and Miss Antonea Venishnick. Modeling for Jennestad’s were Miss Norma Poelstra, Mrs. Harold Ebbett and Miss Valerie Plaster.

CUB PACK 110 HAD PINEWOOD DERBY
At Cub Scout Pack 110’s monthly meeting and Pinewood Derby car races, trophy winners were Barry Stoddard, first place; Ronnie Adams, second; Jon Nelson, third. Jay Harper won a trophy for “best design.” Russell McNearney, Jim Reasor and Dana Pelton were advanced to Webelos.

COMMUNITY FLOAT PLACES THIRD
Sandpoint’s Community Float with a Hansel and Gretel in Wonderland theme took a third place trophy in a division for cities with population under 5,000, at Wenatchee’s Apple Blossom Festival. Melanie Boeck portrayed the witch; Hansel was Vicki Timblin; Gretel was Claudia Ammerman; the fairy god-mother was Paulette Parks, Miss Sandpoint. The float will appear in other area celebrations throughout the summer.

May 9, 1921 – CHAMBER ELECTIONS
Jack B. Gardner, manager of the Gem theater, was elected president of the Sandpoint chamber of commerce for the coming year; R.F. Curtis, retiring president, was elected vice president and A.W. Bowen was reelected treasurer of the organization. Mr. Curtis was first reelected president by acclamation but upon his maintained refusal to serve longer, was permitted to withdraw.

CITY BREVITIES
Yesterday two false alarms were turned in to the fire department, both from downtown signal boxes.
One of the neatest window displays of recent weeks is on exhibition at the Crescent pharmacy where a complete assortment of Glacier candies, the home-made product, invites the passer-by to linger to the lure of the sweet tooth. In addition to the candies displayed, some of the material from which they are made and a machine for turning out lemon drops are also exhibited.

HOPE SCHOOL NOTES
Jack Ferguson, champion sixth grade speller in Bonner county, will go to Coeur d’Alene to compete with spellers from the five northern Idaho counties.
The biology class enjoyed a field trip last Friday. A “weenie” roast added to its enjoyment.
