WALLACE — The Frank A. Morbeck Community Foundation has announced that it will be awarding $165,000 in grants and scholarships for the 2021 calendar year.

The specifics of the recipients of the grants are being kept internal, but the foundation will be awarding $85,000 in funds to the Wallace-area community/youth organizations and $80,000 in scholarships.

While some of those numbers may be kept private — the scholarships will eventually be announced at a later date.

According to Wallace Jr./Sr. High School Principal Chris Lund, the school will announce the amount of each scholarship at its awards ceremony, including the amounts from the Morbeck Foundation.

Since its inception in 2001, the Morbeck Foundation has donated more than $2.8 million into various programs benefiting Wallace-area youth be-it recreational, athletic, academic or learning programs.

The application process was held earlier this year and wrapped up on March 1.

All grants and awards are made at the discretion of the Morbeck Foundation’s board of directors, all of whom are from the Wallace community, and the awards are derived from the income and earnings generated by the foundation.

The foundation is an Idaho nonprofit corporation that was created by Frank A. Morbeck to benefit the quality of life in and throughout the community and surrounding area of Wallace by fostering and enhancing charitable giving and philanthropic purposes. Morbeck died in May 2000 at the age of 78. He left the majority of his estate to the foundation.

Morbeck established the foundation to provide a means for the community and its youth to enjoy the benefits of his years of investing in the community.

The foundation’s Board of Directors is also pleased to announce the Morbeck dinner will be held in October 2021 after being forced to cancel the annual banquet in 2020. Once the date is finalized, the community will be notified.
