NIC ROUNDUP: Cardinal men get one in, with a little help from friends

MEN'S BASKETBALL
COEUR d’ALENE — With its season finale canceled by Blue Mountain Community College, the North Idaho College men’s basketball team got another game in — with an assist from some friends.
Griffin Effenberger, a sophomore from Lewis and Clark High in Spokane, had 34 points and eight assists off the bench for NIC, which beat a group of NIC alumni and friends 115-107 in the spring season finale at Rolly Williams Court on Friday.
Freshmen Julius Mims had 25 points and 10 rebounds and Brendan Johnson 22 points for NIC, which finishes 5-1.
Sam Dowd — who had been an assistant men’s basketball coach this spring at NIC — had 25 points and four rebounds for the Alumni. Trevon Allen, who played most recently at Idaho, added 25 points and four rebounds for the Alumni.

COEUR d’ALENE — Maggie Graves, a freshman from Eureka, Mont., had 16 points and nine rebounds for the Cardinals in a Northwest Athletic Conference win over the Timberwolves in their spring season finale at Rolly Williams Court.
Freshman Kolby Pimperton had 14 points and five rebounds and sophomore Rilee Mangun 11 points and six rebounds for NIC, which finishes 2-3, 2-3.
Blue Mountain is 0-10, 0-10.

YAKIMA, Wash. — Freshman Kasey Davis of Vacaville, Calif., hit for the cycle in the first game for the Cardinals in a sweep of the Yaks in Northwest Athletic Conference play on Thursday.
Davis drove in four runs and scored two runs and freshman Hope Shimatsu of Boise High had two hits and three runs scored in the opener for NIC.
In the second game, freshman shortstop Audrey Walker of Redmond, Wash., hit a two-run home run in the third inning, and finished with three RBIs for NIC (21-6, 20-4 NWAC).
The teams will meet again to conclude the spring season at Memorial Field on Sunday in a doubleheader at 2 p.m.
