As concerns about the coronavirus pandemic wane, school officials in south Lincoln County are planning largely traditional graduation ceremonies.

Ruth Vanworth-Rogers, principal of Libby Middle High School, said Libby’s May 30 ceremony would be held in the Ralph Tate Gymnasium. The ceremony is set to begin at 1 p.m. and should last about an hour.

Administrators budgeted for 10 tickets per student. This allotment would put the gym at 50 percent capacity.

To gauge interest in the ceremony, Jim Germany, assistant principal of the middle high school, sent out a survey to the families of graduating seniors. Vanworth-Rogers said the results showed that some families wanted as many as 20 tickets. Others would be content with three or four.

School officials are hoping to electronically dispense as many of the tickets as possible to avoid having to pass them out at the door.

Germany said 71 students will be walking and the school would not be streaming the event on a Jumbotron outdoors as it did last year.

As in years past, graduation festivities in Troy will be held outdoors on the football field on May 29. Christina Schertel, Troy High School principal, said the event will kick off at 11 a.m. and is expected to last an hour.
