The victim of Tuesday night's single-vehicle, fatal crash on Interstate 90 between Post Falls and Coeur d'Alene has been identified as Darci G. Melvin, 54, of Post Falls.

The Idaho State Police continues to investigate the accident.

According to the ISP, an eastbound Subaru Cross Trek hit the median near milepost 9 about 10:45 p.m., vaulted into the westbound lanes and guardrail and landed in the trees on the roadside. It then burst into flames.

When troopers arrived, they saw a fully engulfed passenger car on the westbound roadside with the fire spreading into the trees, a press release said.

Melvin, the only occupant of the vehicle, died in the crash.

ISP worked with the Kootenai County Coroner's Office to confirm the identity of the victim.

Anyone who witnessed the Subaru driving eastbound on I-90 from Post Falls prior to the collision, observed the collision, or who was on scene before law enforcement arrived and has not spoken to police is asked to call ISP Trooper Enrique Llerenas at 208-209-8730.
