BILLINGS — Whitefish’s Gracie Smyley and Columbia Falls’ Hannah Schweikert cruised into girls’ singles semifinal berths Thursday at the State A tennis tournament.

Columbia Falls’ Niels Getts and Jayce Cripe of Whitefish did the same in the boys singles bracket.

The Whitefish boys lead the field with 10 points in no small part due to Cripe’s performance and those of doubles teams Highland Lee-French and Aaron Dicks and Jack Robertson and Mason Kelch, as well as Joe Brandt.

Lee-French/Dicks won two games, one in consolation over Columbia Falls pair Cody Schweikert and Cade Morgan. Robertson/Kelch are also still alive in consolation and could end up facing Lee-French/Dicks in the third-place match.

Polson leads the girls team race with 12 points. Columbia Falls and Hardin are tied for second place with eight points and Whitefish is in fourth with five.

A Polson team in the final is all but guaranteed: All three girls doubles pairs advanced to the quarterfinal: Berkley Ellis/Qia Harlan, Taylor Collinge/Clara Todd and Ara Mercer/Megan Rost.

Today’s matches will start with boys doubles at 8 a.m. at Great Falls’ Pioneer Park.
