LAUREL — Whitefish’s Mikenna Ells and Lara Erickson of Columbia Falls were among first-day winners at the State A/B track meet on Friday.

Ells won the 400 with a time of 57.96. Erickson and sister Siri went 1-2 in the 3,200, the elder Erickson clocked in at 11:28.30.

Mikenna and sister Hailey Ells finished fifth and sixth in the high jump.

Jay Beagle of Libby won the 400 in 49.38, the first of four events he’ll be competing in this week.

Whitefish’s Talon Holmquist threw 52-03.50 to win the shot put and Bodie Smith finished sixth in the long jump.

Laurel leads the girls’ field with 54 points, and Whitefish is second with 24.5. Hamilton’s 45 points leads the boys race.

In Class B, Bigfork’s Seth Osborne jumped 13-09.2 and won the pole vault on criteria; Jack Jensen was fifth in the 1,600 and Cormac Benn was fourth in the long jump.

Eureka’s Joey Kindel threw 164.00 and place second in the javelin.

The Bigfork boys are tied for second with 16 points. Huntley Project leads with 28.

Manhattan’s 22 points leads the girls field.
