Glacier and Flathead high schools are off to a running start, securing first and second place at the Kalispell Kickoff speech and debate tournament.

Glacier took first with 240.5 overall sweepstakes points, and Flathead was second, with 182 points. Missoula Sentinel took third place with 104 points.

Individually, Glacier first-place finishers included: Tristen Jorgenson and Selah Conklin, Novice Policy Debate; Kevin Fortin, Novice Lincoln-Douglas Debate; Caleb Lamb, Glacier, Impromptu Speaking; Alexa Wilton, Memorized Public Address and Mac Adkins, Original Oratory. Flathead first-place finishers are: Annelise Mason, Legislative Debate; Maayana Sattler, Extemporaneous Speaking; James Francis and Aiden Christy, Duo Interpretation; Aiden Christy, Humorous Interpretation and Kadence Johnson, Dramatic Interpretation.

Class A Columbia Falls placed seventh overall with 44.5 sweepstakes points. When compared to other Class ABC schools, it ranked second behind Frenchtown.

Whitefish, Libby and Bigfork schools also competed.

This is the first tournament to be held in person since last season when competitions were held virtually due to Covid-19 precautions.
