Lake Pend Oreille Waterkeeper and the city of Sandpoint are teaming up again on Saturday to clean up City Beach and nearby shoreline areas in order to prevent pollution from entering local waterways.

The family friendly event is a great opportunity to help spruce up the community’s natural spaces after the busy summer season and protect the beautiful lake, Carolyn Knaack, LPOW associate director, said.

The cleanup will be held on Saturday, Nov. 6, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

“Local businesses, community organizations, and area residents are encouraged to volunteer and work together as we take care of our environment and preserve our shared natural resources,” Knaack said in a press release.

Interested participants can meet at the City Beach pavilion in Sandpoint between 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Refreshments (including coffee courtesy of Evans Brothers Coffee), trash bags, and gloves will be provided. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own work gloves and a recycled bag to reduce waste. Please be aware that the lake bed will be very muddy at this time, so wear waterproof boots are encouraged and participants reminded to try to stay out of the mud as much as possible.

This past spring, LPOW worked with over 100 volunteers from Evans Brothers Coffee, the Pend d’Oreille Winery, the Wildflower Spa at Seasons, and around the community to pick up more than 600 pounds of trash during Earth Week.

“We want to thank these businesses and individual volunteers for their support and we hope to see some familiar faces at our upcoming cleanup,” Knaack said
