After securing another term on Libby City Council, Kristin Smith plans to continue tackling outdated zoning ordinances and revamping local infrastructure.

Having served on the council since 2016 and chaired the city’s zoning commission, Smith said she would keep working on updating and clarifying Libby ordinances. Upgrading playground equipment at Fireman Park remains at the top of her list, too.

Libby voters returned Smith for a four-year term on the council along with fellow incumbent Gary Beach and newcomer Melissa Berke on Nov. 2. Beach earned 449 votes followed by Berke’s 373 and Smith’s 352.

“I appreciate the support and I think it’s an indication that people appreciate the work that I bring to the community,” said Smith.

A high number of voters turned out for this year’s municipal election. While election officials are used to seeing between 26 and 32 percent of eligible voters cast ballots, 61.65 percent of Libby voters filled out absentee ballots, according to Paula Buff, county election administrator.
