COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL: Cougars notch first sweep at California in program history

Washington State d. California 25-19, 25-23, 25-14: At Berkeley, Calif., Hannah Pukis had 28 assists and 13 digs, Argentina Ung nine kills for the Cougars (17-8, 11-4 Pac-12) in a sweep of the Golden Bears (7-19, 0-15) at Haas Pavilion. Katy Ryan, a freshman from Lakeland High, had six kills for Washington State, which won at California for the first time since 2013. It is Washington State’s first sweep at California in program history.

Santa Clara d. Gonzaga 25-16, 25-12, 25-17: At Santa Clara, Calif., Zoe Thiros and Cara McKenzie had seven kills each for the Bulldogs (7-19, 3-12 West Coast Conference) in a loss to the Broncos (10-14, 6-8) at the Leavey Center.
