PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Tying 3-pointer falls short for Kellogg in opener

KELLOGG — A last second 3-point attempt went off the back of the rim as time expired as the Moscow Bears held off the Kellogg Wildcats 33-30 in the nonleague opener for both schools at Andrews Gymnasium on Friday.

Hailey Cheney, who signed to play volleyball at Division II Northwest Nazarene earlier on Friday, scored 10 points for Kellogg.

Angela Lassen scored 12 points for Moscow, which held Kellogg to nine points in the first half.

Macy Jerome scored nine points for Kellogg, which faces Lakeside in the opening round of the Silver Valley Tournament at Kirby Krulitz Court in Wallace next Friday starting at 5:30 p.m.

Moscow visits Lake City today at 3 p.m. for the Timberwolves season opener.

PRIEST RIVER — Symone Pilgrim, a 5-foot-7 sophomore guard, had 22 points and 17 rebounds for the Royals in a win over the Spartans in the nonleague opener for both at Priest River High.

Danica Kelly had 12 points, five steals and five assists and Rylee Overturf seven rebounds and five blocked shots for North Idaho Christian, which travels to Bonners Ferry on Monday.

Sam Pound scored eight points for Priest River, which hosts Wallace on Tuesday.

Lake City High and St. Maries open the season this afternoon, hosting nonleague games.

Lake City will entertain Moscow starting at 3 p.m.

St. Maries hosts Troy starting at 2:30 p.m.

In openers next Friday, Coeur d'Alene hosts Moscow, Kootenai hosts Priest River and Lakeside faces Kellogg at Wallace High in the Silver Valley Tournament.

Post Falls visits Central Valley in its opener on Nov. 30.

Lakeland opens its season on Tuesday, hosting Lake City, then hosts Timberlake in the defending 3A champions opener on Thursday.
