Prep boys basketball jamborees set for today

Post Falls High and Lakeland High are scheduled to host high school boys basketball jamborees today.

All "games" will consist of two eight-minute quarters.

At Post Falls, Lake City and Sandpoint will join the host Trojans at The Arena, starting at 3 p.m. Lake City will face Sandpoint at 3, followed by Post Falls vs. Sandpoint at 3:45 and Post Falls vs. Lake City at 4:30.

At Lakeland, Timberlake, St. Maries and Kellogg will join the host Hawks for the jamboree at Hawk Court, with play scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.

Zags' Holmgren named WCC Freshman of the Week again

SAN MATEO, Calif. — Gonzaga’s Chet Holmgren was named the West Coast Conference Freshman of the Week for the second straight week, the league office announced Monday.

Holmgren averaged 14.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 3.5 blocks in wins over Alcorn State and Bellarmine. Holmgren also shot 75 percent from the field and 100 percent from the free-throw line and posted career highs in points (18), field goals made (8) and steals in Gonzaga’s win over Bellarmine.

Prior to Monday night's game vs. Central Michigan, Holmgren was averaging 11.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 4.0 blocks.

WSU's Woods named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week

SAN FRANCISCO — Washington State linebacker Jahad Woods was named the Pac-12 Conference Defensive Player of the Week following Friday's win over Arizona, the conference office announced Monday.

Woods made a game-high 12 tackles, 1.5 for loss, forced a fumble and picked off a pass in the 44-18 win over Arizona on senior night, a game that clinched bowl eligibility for the Cougars. All 12 tackles came in the second and third quarters as WSU outscored the Wildcats 30-10 and the graduate from San Diego recorded his fourth straight double-digit tackle effort, pushing his season tackle total to 96, second-most in the Pac-12.

EWU women’s basketball game moved to Sunday

CHENEY — The Eastern Washington University women's basketball home game against Multnomah that was originally set for Saturday has been moved to Sunday at 2 p.m. at Reese Court.

The change was made to accommodate Eastern Washington football's home FCS Playoff game at Roos Field, which takes place on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Northern Iowa.

For those who have already purchased a ticket to Saturday's women's basketball contest, the ticket will still be valid for Sunday.

WSU's Gueye named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week

SAN FRANCISCO — Washington State forward Mouhamed Gueye was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week for the week ending on Nov. 21, the conference office announced Monday.

The first year Cougar put together a solid week in the post for the Cougs helping lead the team to wins over UC Santa Barbara (73-65) to start the week and at Idaho (109-61) to end the week. Against the defending Big West champs, Gueye dominated the paint as the young 6-11 forward came up with eight points and a team-best nine rebounds in 23 minutes of action.

Three days later against Idaho, Gueye scored a season-best 13 points on 6-for-7 shooting to go along with a team-best six rebounds.
