I grew up in the Tri-Cities, Wash., and have always loved to write. I attended the University of Washington, where I earned a double major in journalism and political science, with an area of emphasis in history. I am the fifth out of six kids — don't believe any of the stories that my siblings tell. To be able to tell others stories and take photos for a living is a dream come true — and I considered myself blessed to be a community journalist. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, hiking and spending time outdoors, genealogy, reading, and watching the UW Huskies and the Seattle Seahawks. I am a servant to my cat, Frankie, who yes, will eat anything and everything in sight … even wedding cookies. | November 24, 2021 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT — If you're not out on the lake fishing in the Lake Pend Oreille Idaho Club's annual Thanksgiving K&K Derby, you're missing out on a wild one.

In the derby's first four days, there have been four leaders in the adult rainbow division with the latest lead change coming Tuesday when Charlie Miller of Hayden caught a 25.90-pound, 36 1/2-inch rainbow to take over bragging rights from fishing partner Lindsay Barker of Sagle who nabbed that spot Monday with a 24.20-pound, 37 1/4-inch beauty. Baker had taken over the top spot in the division from Tory Johnson, who caught a 22.63-pound, 36-inch fish on Sunday. Tory Johnson of Sandpoint nabbed the top spot away from Troy Johnson, who caught a 21.05-pound, 36-inch fish on opening day.

Miller holds the top spot, with Barker now in second, followed Tory Johnson in third, followed by Andy Friemel of Spokane Valley who caught a 22.20-pound, 33-inch rainbow on the derby's second day.

On the mackinaw side of the leader board, Jennifer Verdal holds the top spot — a position she's held since the opening day of the annual derby — with a 20.7-pound, 38 1/4-inch mackinaw. Second place is held by Zac Taylor, who caught his 17.39-pound mackinaw on the opening day. In third is James Carothers, followed by Gale Belgarde Sr. in fourth, Brad Sturgis in fifth, Damian Vess in sixth, Becky Sturgis in seventh, Dave Janicki in eight, Bert Dennett in ninth and Gary Thompson in tenth.
