WSU extends contract

of soccer coach Shulenberger

PULLMAN — Washington State University athletic director Pat Chun announced Tuesday that women’s head soccer coach Todd Shulenberger had agreed to a contract extension. Shulenberger’s extension will keep him on the Palouse through the 2026 season.

In seven full seasons Shulenberger has guided the Cougars to an 82-42-15 (.643) record, the second-most wins in program history at the time of his extension. The Cougs have won double-digit games in five of Shulenberger’s season, including the current 2021 campaign.

Shulenberger’s Cougs have played their way into the postseason in five of his seven seasons, including the program’s first trip to the College Cup (final four) in 2019, and have won their opening game in the NCAA Tournament in each of their last four trips including this season. His 2017 Cougs became the first team in program history to play their way into the Sweet 16, a mark they would surpass two years later.

This year’s Cougs, with former Lake City High standout Bridget Rieken in her third year as a starting defender, WSU finished 14-3-4 and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
