Louise Alma Gutenberg, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and loyal friend joined our Lord in her forever home on Sept. 11, 2021, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Her gifted hands and musical talents joined heavens to play for eternity.

Louise was born on Aug. 19, 1929, to Pauline and Diodoro Aguilera in Colton, Calif. She was one of eight siblings and grew up humbly being taught the strength of family dependent on God. Through good times and difficult times God, family, music and radio were the influences in her young life. All her brothers and sisters played an instrument and Louise (known to many as “Nana”) played the piano. Boy, could she play! Her favorites were the boogies followed by contemporary well-known hymns that told the story of God’s amazing presence. Her mother, Pauline, had a deep and profound influence on her life having experienced her remarkable Godly strength carry the family on after the sudden and tragic loss of her father, Diodoro at the age of ten years old.

Louise graduated from Colton High School. She will be remembered for a strong work ethic and for being blessed with multiple talents; she worked at a variety of jobs. At twenty-one years old Louise met the love of her life, Navy sailor, Darrell Gutenberg and they married in 1952. They had two children, daughter Loretta Darlene Zabka and son Fritz Louis Gutenberg. They made their early home in Great Falls, Mont.

In 1967 she returned to San Bernardino, Calif., where she went to work for the City of San Bernardino Water Department and retired after twenty-eight years. That daily interaction with different people defined her lifelong mission to share God’s Word and not only in that work place, but in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great grand-children. Her gentle spirit and compassionate heart understood, unequivocally, the power of prayer and to share Christ.

She loved music, needle work, cooking, reading, animals and all the beauty of nature. She shared her love with others and she knew no stranger. She had many favorite Scriptures she lived by and had ready for anyone put in her path. “May the God of peace and hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit”, Romans 15:13. Louise Alma Gutenberg, leaves a legacy for her daughter, son, grandchildren and great grand-children; Paul Zabka, Ashley Cline, Grant Gutenberg, Lauren Gutenberg, Evan Gutenberg and five great grandchildren, sisters and long-time friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell Gutenberg; sister, Erleen; brothers, Earl, Rudy, Yodie, and Joe Aguilera; and parents, Diodoro and Pauline Aguilera.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021, at Candlelight Church.

5725 N. Pioneer Drive, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

Yates Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. On-line registry and condolences may be found at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
