The Civil Air Patrol, Flathead Composite Squadron, invites the community to participate in its annual Wreaths Across America stake pounding event this Saturday. The CAP cadets have raised more than $36,000 for Wreaths Across America with their weekend Boot Drives.

Wreaths Across America has a mission to place a wreath on every veteran’s grave in honor and remembrance of those who have served. This year the Flathead Composite Squadron, with help from the community, will be able to pound stakes and place wreaths on over 2,400 graves.

The squadron is asking for community help with the pounding of stakes at Glacier Memorial Gardens at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16; and at 1 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in Columbia Falls. Bring mallets instead of hammers.

Close to 1,000 stakes will be placed at Glacier Memorial, with 400 stakes at Woodlawn.

The wreaths will arrive in December, and community help will be appreciated at that time as well.

For further information, contact Capt. Wendy Thiesen, CAP Flathead Composite Squadron Public Affairs officer, at 406-250-8186.
