Crews responded early Monday morning to an 8-acre wildfire in the Patrick Creek area south of Kalispell, and a pre-evacuation notice for nearby homes has been put in place.

The fire is burning in grass, brush and timber, according to the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation. Active fire behavior with isolated tree torching was observed.

Fire personnel are trying to stop the forward rate of spread with multiple helicopters and an excavator; 47 firefighters are on scene, the DNRC said. Fire personnel will continue suppression efforts and containment using aircraft, heavy equipment and personnel.

“There have been no structures lost, but multiple homes are threatened,” the agency said, noting the public should avoid Patrick Creek Road.

"Please be careful while out conducting fall burning,” the agency noted. “It’s still dry out there and potential for fire growth still exists.”
