Gonzaga coach Mark Few pleads guilty to DUI

COEUR d’ALENE — Gonzaga men’s basketball coach Mark Few must pay a fine and complete community service after pleading guilty to driving under the influence.
Coeur d’Alene police pulled 58-year-old Few over around 9 p.m. on Labor Day, after receiving a report of a black SUV swerving erratically and speeding.
He reportedly provided breath samples of 0.11 and 0.12.
In Idaho, it’s illegal to drive with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 or more.
A first DUI offense is a misdemeanor punishable by a maximum of 180 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.
“I’m very, very sorry,” Few said in court Friday. “It won’t happen again.”
In lieu of four days in jail, Few must complete 24 hours of community service by February 2022.
He must use an ignition interlock device while on supervised probation for the next year.
His driver’s license has been suspended for 90 days, beginning Oct. 6.
Beginning in November, he will be permitted to drive for work purposes and other essential travel.
Few must also pay a $1,000 fine.
First District Judge John Cafferty granted a withheld judgement in the case.
A withheld judgement is a case resolution where the court does not immediately enter judgement.
After the sentence has been completed, the offender can ask the court to dismiss the case retroactively, making it as if the conviction never occurred.
Few, who has led Gonzaga to the NCAA tournament in each of his 22 seasons as a coach, will miss two exhibition games and the first game of the regular season.
