A Quincy man died and two others were injured in a collision Tuesday night at state Route 282 and Road A Northwest, near Ephrata, according to the Washington State Patrol.

David D. Metzger, 79, of Ephrata, tried crossing state Route 282 to continue onto Road 2 just before 6:19 p.m. when his gray 2009 Suzuki Grand was struck by a maroon 1966 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Geovonni E. Garcia, 22, of Quincy.

The collision caused the Chevrolet to go into the eastbound lane of state Route 282 and it was struck by a black 2021 Volkswagen Jetta, driven by Devon J. White, 19, of Soap Lake.

The Suzuki came to rest in the westbound lane of state Route 282 facing east. The Chevrolet came to rest in the eastbound lane facing east. The Volkswagen stopped on the eastbound shoulder facing north.

Garcia was going to be flown to a hospital, but died at the Ephrata Municipal Airport. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Metzger and White were taken to Columbia Basin Hospital for their injuries. They wore their seat belts.

Metzger may face charges.

The WSP believed the cause was failure to yield right-of-way at a stop sign.

Alcohol and/or drugs didn’t appear to be factors.
