Clark Fork claims fifth straight district title

COEUR d'ALENE — The Lady Cats are district champs.

Clark Fork volleyball cruised past second-seeded Mullan in the 1A Division II District 1 championship match on Thursday night to secure its fifth straight district title.

"The girls played really good tonight," head coach Michelle Valliere said. "They came together and did what we needed to do on the court. Taylor [Staley] was connecting on her kills and the girls were passing in the back row."

The Lady Cats won in three sets, 25-20, 25-18, 25-10.

Clark Fork (13-6) will battle Deary, the District 2 runner-up, in a state play-in game at 3 p.m. Saturday at Lake City High.

Staley finished with seven skills, seven digs and a block, Paige Valliere tallied 16 assists, seven digs and four aces, Caiya Yanik grabbed seven digs and a block, and Taylor Payne served four aces. Katelyn Matteson added a block.

Paige was crowned North Star League MVP at the match, and Matteson, Yanik, Staley and Eloise Shelton all received spots on the all-league team.

Michelle said the team will preparing all day Friday for Deary.

"If the girls show up and play how we know how to play then I'm sure we'll do good and win," she said, "it's just going to depend on if they put the tools we've given them to use."
