Jalon Peters offers parental involvement, accountability
Bonner County Daily Bee | UPDATED 3 years, 2 months AGO
For the Lake Pend Oreille School District Zone 2 trustee position, there are two candidates who hold vastly different positions on the issues.
The incumbent, Gary Suppiger, is a "tax and spend" bureaucrat with a a voracious appetite for unlimited amounts of taxpayer funds going into the coffers of the LPOSD. He has publicly stated that he supports the efforts of Reclaim Idaho to place yet another tax on corporate and small business owners throughout Idaho. He claims it will be a "tax on the rich," but in reality, that tax will be added to goods and services purchased by Idahoans of all economic levels.
Mr. Suppiger also claims that Critical Race Theory has never been taught in LPOSD schools and never will be. What he has failed to address are two other theories that are being utilized. These are "Social Emotional Learning" and "Diversity Equity Inclusion." Mr. Suppiger also ran for District 1 Idaho State representative in the primary of 2021 and lost. If he is reelected to the LPOSD, will he run for that position again and abandon his trustee seat next year?
The challenger in this race is Jalon Peters. Jalon is an independent business owner with an array of experience, including working with youth, managing budgets, and executive responsibilities. He believes in parental monitoring of course curriculum, where parents would be allowed to visit their child's classrooms and observe what is being taught. Parents would also be able to check out written course material for review. (If his opponent is against these procedures, what is he afraid of?) Jalon Peters will also oppose excessive taxing of our residents and wasteful spending on superfluous programs and theories. Additionally, Jalon Peters will listen to the concerns of parents, teachers, and students, followed by a timely response to their issues.
Here are your choices. Tax, spend, encourage ill-thought-out theories, or family-first, parental involvement, fiscal responsibility. The choice is clear to me. Vote Jalon Peters for LPOSD trustee
