The arraignment for a 56-year-old Mattawa man accused of first-degree murder was postponed until Tuesday.
Juan Manuel Silva Murillo was jailed Aug. 20 for allegedly shooting to death his neighbor, Antonio Quiterio Magallon, 54, of Mattawa, court records stated.
Silva Murillo was scheduled to plead on Monday in Grant County Superior Court, but a continuance was filed. He remained in the Grant County Jail on Tuesday with a $5 million bail, according to Grant County Prosecuting Attorney Garth Dano.
Grant County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called at about 2 p.m. Aug. 19 for an unknown problem or medical issue in the 21000 block of Road 24.7 Southwest, about three miles southwest of Mattawa, GCSO Chief Deputy Dustin Canfield said in an earlier interview.
A deputy said at least 17 shots were fired at and/or into Quiterio Magallon in a pasture behind his home. A detective later learned there was a recent fight between the two over an ongoing property and cattle dispute, records stated.
