Kootenai Valley Quilt Guild members have named Carnan Davis their quilter of the year.

Davis began sewing as a child with help from her mother and grandmother, according to a release from KVQG. She made most of her clothes and as an adult she sewed for her husband and son.

After a failed attempt at patchwork in the late ’80s, Davis signed up for quilting class with KVQG and became hooked. Davis attributed much of her quilting skills to guild classes and monthly meetings.

“I enjoy the challenges of new skill scaffolding. The way fabrics play off one another in color and texture really intrigues me,” she said in a statement.

Davis enjoys choosing fabrics for projects, challenging herself with precise work, and sewing alongside other quilters. Davis is serving as this year’s chair of the guild’s quilt show. She recently served as the organization's president and made the 2021 raffle quilt.

“She is an invaluable asset [to] the guild and we find her efforts always tireless and done with that same perfection she displays with her quilts,” KVQG members said in a statement.

The guild will hold its annual show at the Kootenai Valley Christian School Gym Sept. 11-12. Davis’ work will be on display alongside the works of other quilters. Various quilted items will be for sale.
