City officials lifted Sept. 15 the boil order placed on residents tapped into Libby’s water system following a temporary shutoff earlier this week.

As of 10 a.m., residents no longer had to treat their water. Officials earlier said they would need to wait on bacteriological tests to return from the laboratory before ending the boil order.

The shutoff, which began about 10 p.m., Sept. 13, preceded the installation of a transmission main from the city’s water treatment plant to the Cedar Street pressure reducing station. Noble Excavating undertook the project.

Putting a boil order in place is standard practice any time the water system experiences a drop in pressure.

City Clerk and Treasurer Samuel Sikes thanked residents for their cooperation with the boil order in an emailed statement.

“We appreciate your patience,” he wrote.
