MOSES LAKE, Wash. — Post Falls had Mount Si right where it wanted them.

Then, it got away in the fourth quarter.

And again in overtime of a 39-38 loss to the Wildcats of Snoqualmie, Wash., at Moses Lake High on Friday night.

Post Falls took a 31-24 lead with 1:31 remaining on a 10-yard touchdown run by Jaxon Anderson, but Mount Si’s Malichi Mayfield returned the ensuing kickoff to tie the game at 31-all.

“They’ve got some skill players that are very special players,” Post Falls coach Blaine Bennett said. “On that return, we thought we had him down three different times, and just didn’t finish that play.”

Anderson’s 8-yard run in overtime set up a score by Cole Cripps to give Post Falls a 38-31 lead in overtime.

“Jaxon really did a great job of moving us down the field to take the lead,” Bennett said. “Mount Si has some good, big players up front and our offensive line did a good job against them and we were able to run the football.”

On fourth down, Mount Si quarterback Avery Walker found Aidan Dougherty to cut the deficit to 38-37. The Wildcats opted for a two-point conversion as Andy Cole scored on a corner route for the win.

“I told our kids after the game that we don’t get the chance to play overtime often,” Bennett said. “I wish we would have won and came up with some big plays to win the game and did a good job. But I was proud of how our players prepared and think we took another big step moving forward.”

Post Falls (1-3) hosts Lakeland next Friday.

PLUMMER — The host Knights led 14-6 in the second quarter, but the Wampus Cats scored the next five touchdowns to capture the nonleague game.

Lakeside (1-3) was held to 79 rushing yards — an average of 2.5 yards per attempt. The Knights were also intercepted twice.

“We weren’t able to run the ball, and it kind of made us one-dimensional,” Lakeside coach Chris Dohrman said. “We played hard; we just made quite a few mistakes.”

Tucker Sanchez ran for a touchdown and passed to Qwincy Hall for another score for Lakeside.

The Knights got two players back after missing last week’s loss to Mullan/St. Regis due to injury, including safety/receiver Jamari Peone, who caught a two-point conversion.

“He had a good game,” Dohrman said of Peone.
