Whitefish council to consider 95 Karrow project

An amended proposal for a large mixed-use development at the site of a shuttered timber plant is expected to receive final approval from the Whitefish City Council on Monday.
The council will consider an ordinance amending the ambitious "95 Karrow" project, which includes a 70-room hotel, microbrewery, restaurant, offices, boutique shops and condominiums at the former site of the Idaho Timber of Montana plant at 95 Karrow Ave.
The City Council approved a preliminary plat for the project in January 2018 and approved an initial amendment a year later.
In response to changing real estate demands, developer Casey Malmquist and his investment partners recently asked the city for another amendment to the plan for the 14-acre property, relocating the microbrewery, eliminating one building, reconfiguring a so-called "marketplace" building, cutting in half the amount of commercial space, and dramatically increasing the number of planned housing units from 10 to 84.
The Whitefish Planning Board forwarded a positive recommendation on the proposal to the City Council last month.
The council will meet at 7:10 p.m. Monday at City Hall, 418 E. Second St.
