BONNERS FERRY — The community and individuals have $2,150 for the National Child Safety Council's Friendly Police Program teaching safety to children.

NCSCF provides departments with a specific program of materials that explain the vital job members of local Police Departments perform daily and safety knowledge. The community support is appreciated, Bonners Ferry Police Chief Brian Zimmerman said.

Zimmerman thanked community businesses and individuals for the donations, which were used for acquiring supplies for the educational program, including coloring books on bike safety, gun safety and stranger danger. The materials will be distributed to kindergarten through fifth grade.

As stated on the NCSCF website, “A selection of child protection materials has been designed to help explain the potentially dangerous situations children might have to face.”

BFPD solicited businesses in Boundary County for donations to purchase the supplies.

“I would like to thank all the businesses and families who have donated to this cause,” Zimmerman said. “I am so thankful for the generous folks in our community who understand how important it is to educate our youth regarding these safety issues.”
