Anti-mask workshop postponed

A workshop between commissioners and the public about a proposed anti-mask resolution has been postponed until Oct. 22. at 9 a.m. because of scheduling issues.

In a post on the Bonner County Commissioners Office Facebook page, the meeting has been rescheduled because it is “incredibly important that all three commissioners be present, in person.”

The resolution written by Commissioner Steven Bradshaw stipulates that Bonner County will not implement a mask mandate if it is recommended to do so. The resolution has been delayed for four weeks after other scheduling conflicts and calls from the community to give more time for input and participation regarding the resolution.

Wording regarding the legality of the document has been in question since it was originally presented to commissioners at the end of August.

“If we start writing resolutions that overreach our authority, they won't be taken seriously,” said Commissioner Dan McDonald to a full audience at the commissioner’s meeting on Sept. 15.

Commissioner Jim Connolly reaffirmed McDonald’s choice to delay approving the resolution that week,

“Dan is just trying to make it work. He wants to make sure it’s done legally. He’s just trying to make sure that if this does go through, that it’s done properly and won’t be repealed.”
