James Matthew Aaron Thomas heard Jesus call his name on September 15, 2021, and joined him peacefully in his sleep at home.
James was born May 16, 1958 in Truckee, California, to Aaron and Marlene (Moore) Thomas. He grew up in North Idaho and later joined the United States Army in 1979. He was a Pershing missile crew member and nuclear chemical & biological specialist. Afterward, James worked at Spalding Auto Parts for 24 years and retired in 2020.
James met the love of his life in 1996 and married Dalene (Wilson) Thomas on July 12, 1997; they were married 24 years. Together they were a fearless adventure seeking couple.
James had a passion for life, adventures and family. His hobbies included being a motorcycle enthusiast, an outdoorsman of many skills, and creating art from any given material. He was also an avid music lover and could sing a tune from just a phrase spoken. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit.
James was preceded in death by his father, Aaron; brother, Matthew (Matt) Raynor; and grandson, Logan Griffin. He is survived by his wife, Dalene; children, Lorna and Vaughn; mother, Marlene; siblings: Kim Brandon, Dan Thomas, Wes Raynor, Barry Raynor, Kate Erickson, Karen Thomas, Samantha Thomas; nieces and nephews; grandchildren; and the rest of his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, please make all donations in James’ name to the American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association. Psalm 118:29 — Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.
A memorial service with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at Yates Funeral Home – Hayden Chapel, 373 E. Hayden Ave., Hayden, ID 83835.
