The Lady Hawks are on a volleyball roll, the latest victim being league rival Eureka, whom the Thompson Falls crew dispatched 3-1 in a canceled then rescheduled match Saturday afternoon.

The home-standing Lady Hawks took control of the match early, then held off a furious rally by the Lady Lions in set number three before closing things out with a convincing win in set number four.

In the opening set, the Hawks front line controlled the net while the setters and diggers kept Eureka from finding open spots on the Thompson Falls side of the floor. The two teams battled back and forth before TFalls pulled away late in the set and went on to record a 25-17 win and a 1-0 match lead.

The host team came back even stronger in the second set, which they controlled from the outset on their way to a 25-12 victory and a seemingly invincible 2-0 match lead.

Eureka pulled itself together in the third set and avoided the dreaded three-game sweep with a 25-18 win, thanks in large part to the team high in kill shots wracked up by Reena Truman, who finished the match with 14 kills.

That was not enough, however, to offset the sparkling performance by Lady Hawks senior Scarlett Schwindt, who had a game-leading 15 kills to go with her match-high 21 assists.

Thompson Falls recovered from the third set loss and routed the visitors 25-11 in the fourth set to secure the 3-1 match victory.

In addition to the lofty kills and assists totals, Schwindt also had a team and match-high nine digs as the Lady Hawks boosted their season record to 3-1.

Junior Cheyla Irvine added five service aces to the Thompson Falls cause.

Next up for the Lady Hawks is a game tonight (Tuesday) at home against rival Arlee. They continue play Thursday evening with a match in St. Ignatius against the Mission Lady Bulldogs.
