I have deep North Idaho roots and graduated from Eastern Washington University with an English degree with a creative writing emphasis with a minor in film. I worked at at the Bonner County Daily Bee before coming to work at the Bonners Ferry Herald in August 2021. I enjoy writing for the paper that my great-grandfather read and covering the same small town community that is still alive today. I cover all things Badger sports, local politics and government, community news, business, outdoors and appear on the 7Bee podcast for the Herald's update. When I'm not working I can be found reading a good book and sipping tea, knitting or attempting to sign opera. | September 24, 2021 1:00 AM
SANDPOINT — Lake Pend Oreille School District educators provided students a plethora of activities and learning opportunities throughout the day in observance of Constitution Day.
Students were guided through age-appropriate educational activities. For some kindergarten classes this meant tying the newly learned Pledge of Allegiance with the basics of the Constitution. Some fifth grade classes started a U.S history unit earlier in the and dove in more on the subject along with high school students.
Throughout the district “School House Rock” videos were used as a teaching tool along with other videos for class discussion. Some schools had the videos played as part of the morning announcements. Other videos played for educational purposes included “The Constitution for Kids “and a video on the Constitution which included interviews with government officials made by St. Mary’s University School of Law in San Antonio, Texas.
At Farmin Stidwell Elementary, students made liberty hats and coloring flags, said Principal Betsy Delassio.
Teachers will be addressing the Constitution within their classrooms with various lesson plans as well, said Kelli Knowles, principal at Kootenai Elementary.
At the high school level, Sandpoint High School Principal David Miles said social studies teachers will be doing their own activities surrounding the Constitution, either as a warm-up activity or will be incorporating the Constitution another way into lessons.
