Sept. 30, 1971 – MARRIED IN OREGON
Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Griggs were married Aug. 7 in McMinnville, Ore. The bride is the former Karen Joanne Williamson, daughter of Mrs. Esther Reid, Lincoln City, Ore. Parents of the groom are Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Griggs, Samuels.

SANDPOINT MEN IN NAVY EXERCISE
Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class James Martin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Martin, Sandpoint, and Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Lee Burnett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Art Burnett, Rte. 1, Sandpoint, are participating in First Fleet’s “Readiness and Operational Evaluation” (ROPEVAL) aboard the destroyer USS De Haven off Southern California. Navy Fireman Jack Karst, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Karst, Dover, is participating aboard the anti-submarine warfare aircraft carrier USS Ticonderoga in the Pacific. The exercise involves over 20,000 Navy men and Marines in some 40 ships, 23 aircraft squadrons and a Marine amphibious brigade.

CAROLINE COCHRAN VISITED HAWAII
Mrs. Caroline Cochran returned to her home in Sandpoint after two delightful weeks in Hilo, Hawaii with her granddaughter, Carol Jean Olivevia and family. Mrs. Olivevia is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Neal Cochran of the Mountain View community. Mrs. M.E. Luckie, Seattle, accompanied her mother on the trip which Mrs. Cochran won in a drawing held by the Easyway Travel Center of Sandpoint.

Sept. 30, 1921 – MORE SMALLPOX
After a lull in the local smallpox mild epidemic, County Health Officer Wendle today reported two new cases. Olive Osborn, a waitress, was found by Dr. Wendle last evening fully broken out with the disease. She was sequestered at the county detention hospital and her room in a downtown rooming house was given a thorough fumigation. J.W. Bishop, living on S. Lavina street, is in quarantine at his home with smallpox.

HOPKINS & KINCAID GROCERY HELD UP
Two masked bandits Tuesday evening entered the grocery store of Hopkins & Kincaid at Boyer and Main, robbed the cash drawer, the proprietors and another man, and made a getaway without leaving a trace. “They were masked in blue handkerchiefs,” said Mr. Hopkins. “One held a gun on us while the other went through us. They got $60 out of the cash drawer, $2 change from my pocket, $2.50 from John Flewellyn, who was here talking to us, and $3 cash and a $20 check from Mr. Kincaid.” Police patrolled the town and kept a lookout at the railways the rest of the night, but the bandits made a clean getaway.

CITY BREVITIES
The grocery firm of Martin & Grant purchased from Sara Patterson the brick building, corner of 2nd and Main, now occupied by the Main Employment office. The building is being remodeled. It is expected to be ready for occupancy by its new owners Oct. 10.
