HSA springs into science projects

SANDPOINT — Homeschool Academy students are saying goodbye to winter and hello to spring with a number of fun science projects.
Apex Tree Removal stopped by to help with the HSA’s first egg drop. In Tawny Mcdonalds’ science class, students designed and built apparatuses to prevent their raw egg from breaking. To create their contraptions, students were limited to straws, yarn, rubber bands, paper clips, sticks, and cotton balls. Air pressure, drag, gravity, surface area had to be considered when designing the devices.
Travis Miller from Apex took eggs up 10 feet, 20 feet, 40 feet, and finally over 50 feet to find the winner. There were three eggs that survived a 40 feet. The final winner was Shawnee Hoernke.
In addition to the egg drop, the Homeschool Academy celebrated their sixth annual “End of Winter” celebration. Students worked in teams to design, measure, build, and decorate their cardboard and duct tape toboggans. Over a hundred people showed up to celebrate, family members, staff, and students joined the school for the annual celebration
