MARY M. HORN
"I love you, a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck".
Mom passed away at the end of October at the age 100. We miss her, but know she is now with Dad, Jake, Marvin and all the rest of her family.
Mom was born on a farm in Kansas and moved to Southern California with her family when she was 2 1/2 years old. It took 27 days for them to make the trip in a Model T Ford. She was the third of three kids. She lived through the Depression and it was something she never forgot. She met Dad when they were young and they married when when she was 19. They were married for almost 78 years. Mom and Dad had 5 kids. Our home was full of love. Mom grew up surrounded by family and she made sure we did too. Our house was full of family for Christmas, holidays and birthdays. We always had home made ice cream and cake. Mom would stay up late at night after putting us to bed, set our clothes out, polish our shoes and clean the floors so everything would be nice when we woke up in the morning. Mom was a born nurturer, as evidenced in the care she gave to all of us, but especially Marvin, whom she cared for at home from birth until his death at age 35.
Mom and Dad moved to Idaho in 1992. They loved camping and would travel around the country in their trailer. Mom's favorite place was the beach, but she really just loved to go anywhere. In her later years, Mom was able to join the DAR and the local 3 C's Charity group. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church.
After Dad died, Mom stayed busy but her spark was gone. Dad was her best friend and they never ran out of things to talk about or places to go.
Mom was preceded in death by Dad, two of her sons, her parents and her siblings. She is survived by her daughter Mary Little (Dave), son Steve Horn (Patti) and daughter Dorothy Benoit (JB). She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
The services were private and Mom and Dad's wishes were to be buried with their son Marvin at the San Fernando Catholic Mission Cemetery.
"May the road rise up to meet you, May the wind be always at your back, May the sun shine warm upon your face, May the rain fall soft upon your fields, and until we meet again may God hold you in the palm of His hands".
