PREP ROUNDUP: St. Maries' Watkins prevails in pitchers' duel

ST. MARIES — Junior Taci Watkins struck out 19 as the St. Maries Lumberjacks, despite getting no-hit, defeated the Timberlake Tigers 3-0 in a nonleague softball game on Thursday.
Watkins walked two and allowed the game’s lone hit, a two-out double by Logan Walsh in the fourth inning for St. Maries (5-1).
Acacia Pecor struck out six and walked three in six innings for Timberlake (4-1).
St. Maries scored on an error and a passed ball in the second inning to lead 2-0, and added a run on an error in the fifth.
Timberlake plays host to Deer Park today at 5. St. Maries travels to Orofino on Saturday for a doubleheader to open Central Idaho League play.

ST. MARIES — Sophomore Caden Robinett struck out 12 in a two-hitter as the visiting Tigers beat the Lumberjacks in nonleague play.
Robinett also went 3 for 4 with a two-run single in the first inning and two runs scored for Timberlake (3-2).
Robinett pitched just 8.2 innings last season before a hip injury knocked him off the mound, relegating him to DH duty.
"He was lights out," Timberlake coach Bryce Johnson said. "He's got some velocity; he went out and threw a lot of strikes. He put us in a real good position."
Kenny Wells was 3 for 5 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Tigers. Wyatt Kitchin went 3 for 4 and drove in two runs, and JT Armes knocked in two runs.
St. Maries travels to Orofino on Saturday for a doubleheader to open Central Idaho League play.
Timberlake returns to action Wednesday at home vs. Kellogg in a twinbill to open Intermountain League play.

McGann claims four wins
for Kootenai in Kamiah
KAMIAH — Kootenai senior Brady McGann had wins in the 1,600-meter run, as well as the long jump, triple jump and 4x100 relay to help the Warrior boys to a fourth-place finish in the Kamiah Invitational at the Bob Squires Sports Complex.
Senior Carter McGann, Brady's twin, won the 200 for Kootenai, which finished with 90 points. Kamiah won the boys meet with 207.5 points.
Kootenai senior Abby Tiller won the shot put. Lewiston won the girls meet with 215 points.
The Kootenai Invitational is Saturday.

Crabb, Meehan tie for
medalist at Prairie Falls
POST FALLS — Coeur d’Alene teammates Ben Crabb and Jack Meehan tied for boys medalist with a 74 at the Coeur d’Alene JV Invitational at Prairie Falls Golf Club.
Sami Sindt of St. Maries was girls medalist with a 92, followed by Chevy Kibbie of Post Falls with a 97.

MOSCOW — The Vikings swept in boys singles, boys doubles, girls doubles and mixed doubles to power past the Bears at Ghormley Park.
“Everyone on the team played great today,” Coeur d’Alene boys coach Corey DeLeonard said. “I am so proud of how they all competed. There were some close matches where our players were able to shift the momentum and finish strong.”
Coeur d’Alene travels to Mt. Spokane on Monday.
