The Museum of North Idaho recently received the Sister Alfreda Elsensohn Award for its outstanding work. It includes a $10,000 award.

The Idaho State Historical Society and the Idaho Humanities Council will present the award to Britt Thurman, executive director of the Museum of North Idaho, on May 5.

The 1 p.m. ceremony will be at the Fort Sherman Chapel and is open to the public.

Sister Alfreda Elsensohn founded the Historical Museum at St. Gertrude in the 1930s. She sought to collect, preserve and interpret artifacts from Idaho County and the surrounding area to better educate the public.

“We are honored to acknowledge the Museum of North Idaho with the Sister Alfreda award," said David Pettyjohn, executive director of the Idaho Humanities Council.
