PASCO — The Sandpoint track team couldn’t escape the poor weather while it traveled to Pasco, Washington for the Pasco Invitational.

The Bulldogs dealt with freezing temperatures along with rain and snow during the meet and still managed to put up impressive marks.

The boys placed seventh and the girls ended up in 36.

“I’m really happy with the kids,” Sandpoint track coach Matt Brass said. “For them to go on a 3 and a half hour bus ride and come off ready to go is impressive.”

Rusty Lee continued his impressive streak by placing first in the 110 meter hurdles and third in the 300 meter hurdles.

“He’s just .11 off the school record in the 110 hurdles,” Brass said. “While being a junior, that’s impressive and it was raining and windy during his race.”

Senior Will Hurst finished sixth in the shot put and ninth in the discus event.

“I know he wasn’t too happy with his disc throw,” Brass said. “But he did really well considering the conditions. He’s a veteran and knew what he had to do.”

Slate Forgoso finished fourth in the pole vault clearing 11 feet and six inches.

“You can only imagine how hard it was to do pole vault with the weather,” Brass said. “He had a tough time hanging on to it, but he managed to do really well.”

For the girls, the DMR relay team finished in sixth place.

“All four of them had very good legs,” Brass said. “They all worked together to put themselves in a good position.”

Destiny Lyons placed 11 in the 300 hurdles with a time of 50.64.

“I can see her being in the 49s soon,” Brass said. “She’s just getting faster and stronger.”

The next event for Sandpoint is the Christna Finney Co-Ed Relay event in Post Falls on Tuesday, April 19.
