COEUR d’ALENE - Named the Idaho Small Business of the Month for April, Malvagio’s Restaurant at 4055 N. Government Way was recognized by Sen. Jim Risch for its contribution to the North Idaho community.
Started in 2016 by Svetlana and Matthew Petersen, Malvagio’s specializes in wood-fired pizza and catering. Inspired by a love of wood-fired cooking, the Petersens spent a year honing their skills before opening the business.
The Petersens have been raising money to help support Ukraine, as Svetlana is native to the country. Serving a Ukrainian red borscht each weekend, the Petersens have donated thousands of dollars to support humanitarian efforts in Ukraine.
“Svetlana and Matthew are using their platform to make a difference in people’s lives halfway around the world,” Risch said in a press release. “Their commitment to North Idaho and dedication to a worthy cause is beyond commendable.”
The restaurant will be recognized in the Congressional record of the U.S. Senate for being a champion of “Idahoan entrepreneurship and philanthropy along the way,” Risch said.
