POST FALLS — After two months of just practicing, the Clark Fork tennis duo finally took the court.

The two athletes who make up the Wampus Cats, junior Emily Meyers, and freshman Jamie Herrick, were in doubles action against the Post Falls JV team.

The duo fell against both of their opponents 8-3, 6-4.

The two matches served as a good learning experience, according to head coach Jeff Emmer.

“This was their first time playing together, so that’ll always be an adjustment,” Emmer said. “But after they got used to each other, they did really well.”

For Meyers, it’s been a long road to get to an actual tennis competition.

Last year, she suffered a knee injury from skiing that didn’t allow her to participate. The year prior, COVID-19 shut down the season.

She’s since been medically cleared and for the first time, was able to play in a high school tennis match.

“She looked good,” Emmer said. “They were both nervous, but once she got over the nerves she had some really nice strokes.”

It was also Herrick’s first time on the court and after spending two months practicing, she was able to show off what she learned.

“The games are always more fun, but the practices have more value,” Emmer said. “I saw some good things from (Jamie). When she was in position, she hit the ball really well.”

The Wampus Cats will be in action again today at 3 p.m. against Coeur d’Alene’s JV team.
