Kootenai County candidates will participate in the Virtual Town Hall Forum starting at 5:30 p.m. Monday.
Brought to viewers by The Press and North Idaho Chambers of Commerce, the forum will feature candidates for four Kootenai County offices: coroner, clerk, assessor and commissioner.
Coroner candidates Duke Johnson and Mark Manteuffel are in the 5:30 p.m. time slot, followed by Jennifer Locke and Mike Bauer for clerk at 6:10, Béla Kovacs and Bob Scott for assessor at 6:50 p.m., and Chris Fillios and Bruce Mattare for commissioner have the 7:30 p.m. time slot.
Each segment of the program will feature three pre-written questions, with one alternate question if time permits. The broad, issues-centric questions have been submitted by Press readers and Chamber partners. The questions are timely and relevant to specific political races and will relate to stated platforms.
The forum is designed to be informative for the audience. Participants are expected to be respectful and civil. Time will be closely managed.
"It's a great opportunity to get to know the eight candidates for the four county contested races," said Press Publisher Clint Schroeder, who will also moderate the event. "Each candidate comes at their respective race from a unique point of view."
The live forum will also be recorded. The final version will be posted to "Meet the Candidates" on cdapress.com later Monday evening. The Press will stream the live event on social media.
"Making an educated decision when you execute your right to vote is one of the most powerful things we can do as Americans," Schroeder said. "I'm proud to bring this level of information to our readers, subscribers and the residents of Kootenai County."

Christmas shopping is always better with friends. When those friends are festively clad classmates with a common goal of shopping for families in need while keeping to a budget, it makes that shopping experience much merrier. “It’s really nice and I’m super happy that I can bring joy to people who can’t afford as much as they would like,” Lake City High School senior Aurora Johnson said Thursday morning. "It’s a really fun and great activity, and I love how passionate our class is for it.”

Lakeland High celebrates successful blood drive
Lakeland High School is celebrating a successful Friday blood drive that brought in 85 units that will impact up to 255 people in local hospitals. The school will also be receiving a $5,000 check from Vitalant that will be used to buy equipment, books or laboratory projects that promote and support Lakeland High School science, technology, engineering or mathematics programs. Hosted by the Lakeland Honor Society, the annual blood drive is a longstanding tradition for the high school. "Lakeland High School ran blood drives before I arrived back in 1997," said honor society adviser Frank Vieira, who has been the blood drive coordinator for 28 years.
