PREP ROUNDUP: Moehring, Gosch lead Cd'A to sweep

COEUR d’ALENE — Abby Moehring went 7 for 7 on the day, and Delaney Gosch had five hits and drove in five runs as the host Coeur d'Alene Vikings swept the Moscow Bears 10-0 and 14-9 in Inland Empire League play at Larry Schwenke Field on Thursday.
In the first game, Gosch hit a two-run home run in the third inning, an RBI double in the fourth, and finished 3 for 4 with four RBIs and two runs scored for Coeur d’Alene (13-2, 10-2 IEL). Moehring went 3 for 3 for the Vikings, and Kristine Schmidt pitched a two-hit shutout with seven strikeouts.
In the second game, Moehring went 4 for 4 with two RBIs, and Makiya McPhedran-Torres hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning for Coeur d’Alene. Leah Nordman had three hits for the Vikings.
Moscow is 5-11, 2-8.
Coeur d’Alene’s games vs. Sandpoint on Saturday have been canceled. The Vikings are next scheduled to play at Lake City on Tuesday in a league doubleheader.

LEWISTON — The visiting Timberwolves were swept by the Bengals in the IEL doubleheader at Airport Park.
Layla Gugino went 4 for 6 on the day, with a triple and double in the second game for Lake City (4-14, 3-9 IEL), which plays host to Lakeland today in a doubleheader at 2:30. Hope Bodak also doubled and tripled in the nightcap for the T-Wolves.
Kaitlin Banks struck out eight in the first game, and Taryn Barney homered in each game for Lewiston (14-5, 11-3). Barney hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning of the opener, and a grand slam in the second inning of the nightcap.

SPIRIT LAKE — Alycia Cameron had two hits and drove in three runs and the Tigers used a seven-run third inning to pull away from the visiting Bulldogs in nonleague play.
Logan Walsh hit a solo homer in the first and an RBI double in the third for Timberlake (15-2), which returns to Intermountain League play today with a noon doubleheader at Bonners Ferry.
“Defensively, we played really well,” said Timberlake coach Casi Lupinacci, whose team committed no errors. “It took us a while to adjust (offensively); the third inning is when we started hitting the ball well.”
Ashlyn Darling’s RBI single in the top of the third tied the game at 1 for Sandpoint (1-14). Darling, Kalila Tuinstra and Aspen Schwenk each had two hits for the Bulldogs.

MOSCOW — Evan Mallory singled to score Cooper Larson with two outs in the top of the fifth inning, one of only two hits on the day for the visiting Vikings in a nonleague win over the Bears at the Moscow School District Community Playfields.
“Evan’s been big for us all year,” Coeur d’Alene coach Erik Karns said. “He’s just seemed to find a way to come out with those big hits we’ve needed. Whenever we need one, he seems to be up and he came through again.”
Kyle Bridge, who had the Vikings' other hit, scored on a throwing error to give Coeur d’Alene a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Moscow tied the game on an RBI single by Barrett Abendroth in the bottom of the third to make it 1-1.
Ryan Schneider struck out five of the six hitters he faced to close out the game for Coeur d’Alene.
“Their kid (Jamison Green) threw the ball really well and threw a lot of strikes,” Karns said. “All of our pitchers were really efficient and did a great job. Ryan was really locating his pitches and did a great job closing it out.”
Coeur d’Alene (12-5) travels to Sandpoint for a doubleheader at noon on Saturday.
Moscow (7-9) hosts Lakeland in a league doubleheader today at 2 p.m.

SANDPOINT — The visiting Tigers managed just four hits in a loss to the Bulldogs in nonleague play at War Memorial Field.
Ethan Butler struck out four and walked two in a six-inning complete game for Sandpoint (6-8).
Kenny Wells had an RBI single in a three-run second inning that pulled Timberlake (12-5) into a 3-all tie. It was all Bulldogs after that.
Timberlake travels to Bonners Ferry on Saturday for an Intermountain League doubleheader starting at 11 a.m.

POST FALLS — Priest River’s Luke Butler and Bonners Ferry’s Braylyn Bayer captured medalist honors, leading their teams to victory at an Intermountain League tournament at The Links.
Butler shot a 76 for the boys title. Priest River won the team title with a 334.
Bayer shot an 82, leading the Badgers to the girls team title with a 396.
Another IML tourney is scheduled for Monday at Pinehurst Golf Course at 10 a.m.

MOSCOW — The Timberwolves swept in boys doubles and mixed doubles to top the Bears at Ghormley Park.
The boys doubles teams of Zack Castaneda and Quade Castaneda, as well as Bryce Snow and Brendan Busto won in straight sets, as did the mixed doubles team of Kenzie Lommasson and Quinton Dule.
Lake City faces Coeur d’Alene on Tuesday, with boys matches at Coeur d’Alene and girls matches at Coeur d’Alene High.
