SPIRIT LAKE — The Sandpoint softball team's pitching staff dished out 11 walks in its 5-inning nonleague loss to Timberlake on Thursday.

“That was the determining factor in the game,” Sandpoint softball coach Elizabeth Hawkins-Williams said. “We gave up too many free passes and allowed too many runners on base.”

Kivia Barlow, Mayle Ducken, and Cresanna Authier spent time on the mound for the Bulldogs. According to Hawkins-Williams, the trio had a hard time controlling their fastball.

“(Kivia) Barlow actually started off pretty strong,” Hawkins-Williams said. “She just couldn’t find her fastball. The pitching staff didn’t execute.”

The Bulldogs were effective at the plate by putting the ball in play. The Tigers outhit Sandpoint 8-7.

Aspen Schwenk, Kalila Tuinstra, and Ashlyn Darling all notched two hits each.

Sandpoint next plays at 11 a.m in Moscow on Saturday in a doubleheader. The Bulldogs will have a stretch of six league games.

“We’re still trying to find out what we want as a team,” Hawkins-Williams said. “We’re starting to run out of time with six straight league games coming up. We’ll see what we decide to be.”
