KELLOGG — Badger athletes competed — and conquered — at the SilverHoops 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament, North Idaho’s largest three-on-three basketball tournament.

In the high school girls’ division, Asha Abubakari, Taren Bateman, Sydney Hinthorn and Brooke Petesch won top honors.

The middle school boys got second in their division and finished 5-1. The team included Peyton Hinthorn, Jameson Cartwright-Kissee, Alex Stolley and Ty Shrock.

Also competing, Sulay Abubakari and his friends from Priest River took second in the high school boys division.

Four teams in the tournament had Bonners Ferry players presenting Boundary County.

In a social media post, Bonners Ferry High School basketball Coach Kelly Hinthorn said that all of the teams battled, competed and showed sportsmanship under brutal 100-plus degree conditions.

“We had the best group of parents looking out for all the kids and making sure they stayed cooled off and hydrated,” she wrote. “Thank you to the players, coaches, and badger fans for making this a fun weekend.”
