Like father, like son and daughter.
Dad Michael Lewis and his kids Bridgette and Jordan Lewis share something special when they step on the stage together — a love of music deep in their DNA.
"It’s funny, we don’t really think about the fact that we are a 'family band' until someone mentions it," Michael Lewis told The Press. "We are very focused on our preparations, on the music, on our performances and what we can do to make a better, more meaningful presentation."
Performing as the band One Street Over, the trio spends countless hours preparing, rehearsing and crafting unique sets for every show.
"We are constantly learning and adding new material that we think will help us connect with our audiences," Michael said. "While we are all great friends and we love being together, there’s a lot of hard work involved and sometimes we don’t really think about it in a 'family' context or really get to ‘savor the moment' when we’re in the midst of working."
That chemistry is immediate once they start playing.
"We all know what the other is thinking and when it starts flowing we are having a great time," Michael said. "Our focus is more on the audience than it is on ourselves. We are really wanting to give each of our audiences a special performance that they will always remember. After doing this a long time, you realize that each show is a once-in-a-lifetime moment with people you may or may not ever see again. But then, at the end of the night, someone says, 'Are you related?' And we’re like, 'Oh, yeah, as a matter of fact we are!”
That teamwork and dedication has earned them a place in the Altar Global Music Hall of Fame, to which they were inducted in June. The honor is selectively given by Altar Global Entertainment, founded by Cesar "Mr. Hollywood" Altamirano in 2013 to recognize and thank artists for their valuable insight, continued dedication and as talented unique people.
One Street Over has been friends with Altamirano for quite some time.
"Cesar and I became friends and he said he really liked the recordings that I sent to him, but when he went to see the group live for the first time, I think he was more than surprised at what he heard and experienced," Michael said.
In May, Altamirano booked the trio as an opening act for a Grammy Award-winning artist from Las Vegas.
"He had planned to surprise us, so he presented us with the award before we were about to start the show," Michael said. "Bridgette was crying and we were so overwhelmed. It made it hard to concentrate on our performance!"
One Street Over plays covers and originals with Bridgette's velvety lead vocals, Michael on guitar and Jordan's talents on keyboard.
