Local woman looking for teammates for senior games basketball tourney

A local women is trying to find a group of women her age who would like to play in a 3-on-3 basketball senior basketball tournament at the Huntsman Games in Utah in October.

"I am 58 and love to play basketball very much," said Karen Kastning. "I play several times per week at the Kroc Center with a group of guys who are in their 60s and 70s, and also with a younger group.

Kastning's age group is 55-59, though she said she could play down in the 50-54 age bracket, so any women in her 50s will do.

"If a very competitive 60-plus year-old person came along, we could look at them as well," Kastning said.

At the Huntsman Games, placing in the top three of any division qualifies the team for the national senior games which are next spring in Pittsburgh.

Gonzaga women's basketball coach Fortier named to third halls of fame

Gonzaga women's basketball coach Lisa Fortier was named to her third Hall of Fame in the last two years as she was named to the Butte College HOF this week.

She was also recently honored at Cal State Monterey Bay and Placer High School in 2020.

"I am completely humbled by these honors," Fortier said. "I loved my time at each of these schools, and I value the relationships and experiences that have come from my time spent at Placer High School, Butte College, and CSU Monterey Bay. I am so thankful for the teammates, teachers, coaches, and mentors that have entered my life through education and basketball."

During her time at Placer High, Fortier, then Lisa Mispley, was part of the basketball team that made the playoffs, and she still holds the record for most charges taken. She also ran the hurdles and ran track for the Lady Hillmen.

From Placer High, Fortier played for the Butte women's basketball team from 1999-2002. During her tenure, the Roadrunners advanced to the third round of the NorCal playoffs before advancing to the Elite Eight during her final season.

After her final season at Butte, the guard from Grass Valley, Calif., transferred to California State University, Monterey Bay, where she was named All-Cal Pac Conference, NAIA Academic All-America, and CSUMB Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

The ceremonies for Cal State Monterey Bay and Placer High School have already taken place, but the Butte College induction ceremony will be held on Sept. 16.
