PEGGY BROWN 1938-2022

Peggy Brown passed away Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2022, at Guardian Angel Homes in Post Falls, Idaho, at the age of 84, after battling Alzheimer’s for many years.

Peggy was born in Ogden, Utah, to Lyle Butters and LeYonda Sorensen. She was the middle child, with older brother, Lyle, and younger brother, Jack. Their family moved frequently and finally settled in Spokane, Wash., where she attended Rogers High School, graduating in 1956. She attended secretarial school and worked for the Spokane Chamber of Commerce. She married her high school sweetheart, Rod Brown, and they raised a son and daughter.

She was a homemaker for many years and was divorced after her children were grown. After this life change, she became employed at Murphey Favre, Inc., a Spokane-based investment firm.

In 1982, Peggy moved to Bellevue, Wash., to open an office as Washington Mutual purchased Murphey Favre. She worked at Washington Mutual in Seattle for 17 years and was responsible for their branch manager hiring and training program.

After retirement, she moved to Post Falls, Idaho, where she enjoyed living on the Spokane River for many years. Her favorite role in life was being “Grammy Peggy” to her grandkids and to anyone else who needed a Grammy.

Peggy was known for her upbeat attitude and positive outlook on life. Her family camped regularly with favorite places being Westport, Wash., and Sam Owen Campground on Lake Pend Oreille. After retirement, she traveled frequently — Europe, the Virgin Islands and the Panama Canal being among the many destinations. She was an avid lifelong card player — Bridge, Canasta, Rummy, Hearts, Hand & Foot, Spite & Malice, etc., with the overall favorite being Pinochle. She also volunteered at the Post Falls Library for several years, managing the library’s used book and gift store, Twice Told Tales. Proceeds from the store were used for library improvements.

She was preceded in death by her son Doug, brother Lyle, nephew Russell, and her parents. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sheryl and Dan, granddaughter and grandson, Delaney and Derek, brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Gayleen, sister-in-law Arlene, daughter-in-law Mary and her children, Dana and Ryan. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and wonderful life-long friends. We all miss her fabulous smile.

A celebration of life for Peggy will be held Saturday, Sept. 10, at 3 p.m. at the Ruby River Hotel, 700 N Division St., Spokane, Wash. 99202. Dress is casual and comfortable. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Association are appreciated.
