COEUR d’ALENE - Three North Idaho legislators said Tuesday they support Gov. Brad Little’s plan to cut taxes to fight inflation.

“I am an equal opportunity tax cutter,” said Rep. Jim Addis. “I like tax cuts.”

Addis said he agrees that tax cuts will make a difference.

“I like people to have money back in their pockets,” he said.

Rep. Paul Amador said he was pleased to co-sponsor the governor’s proposal for a special session of the Legislature to address historic inflation, reduce taxes and strategically invest in education spending.

“With historic budget surpluses built upon solid economic management I feel now is the perfect time to return and reduce taxes to help Idahoans deal with inflation that is hitting their pocketbook every time they go to the grocery store or gas station,” he wrote. “Additionally, we can utilize our surplus to invest in education and build a bright future for future generations of Idahoans.”

Sen. Mary Souza also said she supports the special session to pass tax cuts.

“Inflation is hurting everyone, and the unanticipated increase in sales tax revenue is a good place to start giving taxpayers some of their money back,” she wrote. “More will be considered during the regular session in January.”

Souza said the proposed education funding will not require a tax increase on anyone, and will be ongoing every year.

She said proposed legislation will be on the November ballot as an advisory vote for citizen approval.
