On Monday, July 25, 2022, Larry Albin passed away from natural causes in Post Falls, Idaho. Larry died peacefully with beloved wife Sharon and his daughters and sons-in-law surrounding him. Born in Grangeville, Idaho, on Oct. 5, 1941, Larry was 80 years old at the time of his death.

Growing up in Yakima, Wash., Larry was the youngest of eight children to Charles and Rose Albin. After high school, he traveled the world, including crossing the Arctic Circle in 1964, while serving in the U.S. Coast Guard for four years, from 1962 to 1966. After serving, he lived in Seattle, where he met his bride-to-be, Sharon Wold. They started a family and, after the birth of their second daughter, they decided to move back to Yakima to raise their children.

Larry spent his 35-plus-year career as a switchman with the Burlington Northern Railroad. When the BN left Yakima, Larry and Sharon made the difficult decision to relocate to Seattle. They unexpectedly loved living in Seattle, enjoying Alki Beach, the view of the Olympic Mountains from their front window, trips downtown and exploring the west side of the state. More recently, Larry and Sharon retired and spent the last 20 years living in Post Falls, Idaho, where they explored and camped all over Idaho in their RV. Larry and Sharon enjoyed motorcycle riding, square dancing and camping with immediate and extended family and friends.

He was a devoted husband to Sharon for 56 years. Larry had a talent for cards — some might say he was a card shark, able to intuitively know what would be dealt next, sometimes making it not fun to play with him because he always won! He was an avid storyteller, talking about the good ol' days growing up in Yakima, his family and working the rails and tales from his years in the Coast Guard. He loved to read and often read the same books his daughters would be reading. Thanksgiving was his favorite holiday, and in that spirit of thanksgiving, he would remark, usually after a random family get-together, that “this was a good day.” He will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon; eldest daughter Laurie (David) Silva; younger daughter Stacy (John) Velikanje; and his two granddaughters, Elizabeth Velikanje and Megan Velikanje.

Yates Funeral Home is entrusted with final care. Please visit Larry’s online memorial and sign his guestbook at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com
